Frequently Asked Questions
-
A funder network is a collaborative of grantmakers that aims to increase the effectiveness, impact, and scale of philanthropy by bringing grantmakers and investors together through shared learning and opportunities for collaborative work.
-
No, this a common misconception. While CBFN supports a network of grantmakers, we are not one ourselves nor do we provide grantmaking recommendations to our members. There may be times that members work together to align or pool funding, but CBFN as an entity does not have its own funding or endowment for grantmaking purposes.
-
Membership is open to foundations, donors, and investors whose philanthropy supports environmental protection and restoration, including improving the health and wellbeing of residents in communities across our region. To learn more about how to become a member, complete this short form and our staff will get back to you!
-
CBFN understands that every foundation has its own priorities, concerns, and limitations. We do not take advocacy positions or speak on behalf of the entire network. We are a space for shared learning, connection, and collaboration.
-
All programs are open to members and non-members. Unless otherwise indicated, programs are reserved for representatives of foundations, donor advised funds, investors, and philanthropic support organizations.
-
No, this is a common misconception with our organization. While we work with funders and discuss resource mobilization, we do not match grantseekers with potential funders. Our role as a philanthropic support organization is to educate a broad range of stakeholders and provide a platform to amplify solutions that drive systems change. We invite you to learn more about our members and their funding opportunities directly from their websites.
We have also compiled a list of resources for grantseekers.
-
CBFN’s priorities are set on an annual basis by our members. While we are always open to learn about current and emergent issues, any program must be in alignment with our annual work plan. Additionally, while we wish we could meet with everyone, we have limited staff capacity and are unable to respond to every request. To learn more about CBFN’s current programming, check out our Work Groups & Initiatives and News & Events pages.
